Local Golfers Advance to U.S. Mid-Amateur in September

Four local golfers advanced to the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship at a qualifying event held Aug. 1 at Oswego Lake Country Club. Richard Ray, Jack and Chris Dukeminier, and Landon Banks will head to Wisconsin where the championship proper will be played Sept. 10-15 at both Erin Hills CC and Blue Mound G&CC.

Richards and the Dukeminier brothers finished the competition at 2-under par – each posting a 68 at the 18-hole qualifier.

Richards had a blemish-free scorecard featuring two birdies to go with 16 pars. Jack Dukeminier was 6-under par through 13 holes before falling back to the rest of the field with four consecutive bogeys on Nos. 15-18. Chris Dukeminier made the turn at 1-over but shot 3-under on the back nine for a qualifying position.

Landon Banks and Austin Spicer both finished at 1-under par, with Banks earning the fourth and final qualifying position in a playoff.

Spicer and Taylor Klopp (E) finished as first and second alternates.

The final local qualifying event for the USGA will be the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Qualifier set for Sept. 12 at OGA Golf Course in Woodburn.
