Vassar Comes up Clutch at Running Y Ranch

What a couple days for 17-year old Tyler Vassar (The Dalles, Ore.)

Vassar finished with a 67-70—137 (-7) to win his first Boys Open Division Major Championship at Running Y Ranch during the Klamath Basin Jr.  Up until this point in the season, Vassar’s best finish in an OJG Major was a T19th at the Peter Jacobsen Challenge in Corvallis.  Vassar played the final five holes 4-under par to win by two shots over Scottie Kennon (Bandon, Ore.) who finished at 5-under 139.  Seven other players finished with scores under par in the Boys Division.

Following a one stroke victory at the Southern Oregon Jr. (July 16-17) in the Girls Open Division, Olivia Venderby (West Linn, Ore.) claimed back-to-back titles by earning medalist at Running Y Ranch with a 77-74—151 (+7).  Baylee Hammericksen (Medford, Ore.) finished three shots off the lead to take second place following rounds of 78-76—154 (+10).

Aerin Song, the first round leader, followed her 4-over 76 with a 12-over 84 to finish T5th alongside Kaylee Wu (Medford, Ore.)

The next Major Championship on the Oregon Jr. Golf schedule is the Central Oregon Jr. Championship, which takes place from July 23-24th at Meadow Lakes Golf Course & Eagle Crest Golf Resort.
