Three Players Qualify for 2017 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship

WARRENTON, ORE. ­­– Arthur Kim (Tigard, Ore.), Eric Fiskum (Salem, Ore.), and Ian Dahl (Longview, Wash.) all qualified for the 2017 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship by qualifying Monday at Astoria Golf & Country Club in Warrenton, Ore.

Kim, the 2017 OGA Tournament of Champions winner, fired an incredible 9-under par 62 to earn medalist honors by seven shots. His round included nine birdies and nine pars, including a 5-under par 30 on the back nine.

Fiskum is the 2002 Oregon Mid-Amateur champion, played just down Highway 101 at Gearhart Golf Links. He shot a 2-under par 69, compiling three birdies on the back nine on his way to earning the second qualifying spot.

The third and final qualifying spot came down to a six-person playoff at 1-under par between Dahl, John Payton (Seattle, Wash.), Tom Greller (Newberg, Ore.), Matt Hartley (Vancouver, Wash.), Robbie Ziegler (Portland, Ore.), and Matthew Jacobsen (Portland, Ore.). With the playoff continuing on, Dahl earned the final spot after a birdie on the third playoff hole.

Greller earned first alternate honors, while Ziegler is the second alternate.

The 2017 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship will be held October 7-12 at the Capital City Club and Atlanta National Golf Club in Atlanta and Milton, Ga., respectively.
