Three Oregonians Competing in 2018 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur
VERO BEACH, Fla. -- Three OGA members will be competing in the upcoming 2018 U.S. Senior Women's Amateur Championship, taking place Oct. 6-11, 2018 at Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club in Vero Beach, Fla.
Ginny Burkey (Eugene, Ore.), Terri Frohnmayer (Salem, Ore.) and Lara Tennant (Portland, Ore.) will all be playing in this year's championship.
For Frohnmayer and Tennant, both players have had previous success in this event. Frohnmayer won the national championship in 2011, when she competed in her first-ever U.S. Senior Women's Amateur. The same year, Frohnmayer was named both the OGA Golfer of the Year and the Pacific Northwest Senior Women's Player of the Year. In 2010, Frohnmayer won the Pacific Northwest Senior Women's Amateur.
Tennant also had success in her first U.S. Senior Women's Amateur. In last year's event, held at her home course of Waverley Country Club in Portland, Tennant earned co-medalist honors and the No. 1 seed in match play before falling in the round of 64.
Tennant has had a highly-impressive 2018. She successfully defended her titles at both the Oregon Senior Women's Amateur and the Oregon Women's Mid-Amateur Championships, a year after winning OGA Women's Golfer of the Year in 2017.
Burkey has also had a successful year thus far. She finished second at the 2018 Oregon Senior Women's Stroke Play Championship, also advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2018 Oregon Senior Women's Amateur.
Burkey begins stroke play qualifying on Saturday at 10:25 AM PST off No. 10. Frohnmayer will tee off No. 1 at 6:20 AM, while Tennant begins the event at 6:40 AM on No. 10.
