Team Oregon Squads Named for 2017 Hogan Cup
PORTLAND, ORE. – The two teams representing Oregon, Oregon Junior Golf, and the Oregon Golf Association at this year’s Eddie Hogan Cup Team Matches were announced Tuesday, following play at the 2017 Portland City/Bob Allard Memorial at Rose City Golf Course in Portland, Ore.
The 49th Eddie Hogan Cup Team Matches will take place August 11-13 at Riverside Golf & Country Club in Portland. The annual event pits 12 teams from western states and provinces against each other in a 36-hole team tournament.
As the host association, Oregon Junior Golf receives two teams annually at the Hogan Cup. This year’s Oregon teams are:

Johnny Ward (Lake Oswego, Ore.)
Isaac Buerger (Redmond, Ore.)
Samuel Pyon (Happy Valley, Ore.)
Jackson Kennon (Bandon, Ore.)
Ronne, 17, has had an outstanding 2017 season, winning both the Oregon Junior Amateur and Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championship. He also won Oregon Junior Golf’s first major of the year, the Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge. In 2016, Ronne tied for medalist honors at the 48th edition of the Hogan Cup, helping Team Oregon #1 to a team victory at Riverside.
Stember, 16, has one major victory in 2017, coming at the Central Willamette Valley Junior in July. He finished runner-up to Ronne at the Oregon Junior Amateur, earning the top seed after stroke play qualifying. Stember earned top-5 finishes at the Oregon Junior Stroke Play and Centennial Junior, as well as at U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying.
Carnese, 16, earned a T4 finish at this week’s Portland City/Bob Allard Memorial. He advanced to the semifinals at the Oregon Junior Amateur, and earned third places finishes at both the Oregon Junior Stroke Play and Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge.
Scotty Kennon, 14, earned medalist honors at U.S. Junior Amateur qualifying in June, advancing to the championship proper last month. He won the Centennial Junior earlier this summer, earned runner-up at this week’s Portland City/Bob Allard Memorial, and also finished runner-up in the Boys Division (ages 14-15) at the Oregon Junior Amateur.
Team Oregon #1 is the same team that represented Oregon at the 2017 Junior America’s Cup, in which the team finished in fifth place last month.
Representing Team Oregon #2, Ward, 15, cemented his place in this year’s Hogan Cup with a T2 finish this week at Rose City. He earned second place finishes at both the Central Oregon Junior and Central Willamette Valley Junior, also advancing to the Boys’ semifinals at the Oregon Junior Amateur.
Buerger, 15, won the Boys division championship at the 2017 Oregon Junior Amateur. He finished T2 at the Central Willamette Valley Junior, and tied for fifth at the Oregon Junior Stroke Play Championship.
Pyon, 16, represented Team Oregon #1 at last year’s Hogan Cup, earning co-medalist honors with Ronne. In 2017, he finished in second place at the Southern Oregon Junior, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Oregon Junior Amateur.
Jackson Kennon, 16, will be joining his brother at this year’s Hogan Cup. The elder Kennon was on Team Oregon #2 last year, as well. In 2017, Kennon advanced to the semifinals of the Oregon Junior Amateur, and finished in the top-5 of the Southern Oregon Junior and in stroke play qualifying at the Junior Amateur.
