Team Oregon Earns Fifth-Place Finish at 2017 Junior America's Cup
DUPONT, WASH. - The four-person team representing Oregon and Oregon Junior Golf finished fifth at the 45th Junior America’s Cup, held at The Home Course in DuPont, Wash. and hosted by the Washington State Junior Golf Association July 25-27.
Austin Carnese (Portland, Ore.), Scotty Kennon (Bandon, Ore.) Craig Ronne (Klamath Falls, Ore.), and Nate Stember (Portland, Ore.), the squad representing Oregon Junior Golf, shot a combined score of 660 (+12) over the three-day event. The best three scores of each team were used to form the team’s score each day.
Three Oregon players finished in the top-20 in scoring. Carnese, who was 4-under par after 36 holes, was the top Oregon player, ending up at 2-over par and T9 out of 72 total players. Stember earned a T16 finish, shooting 5-over par, and Ronne, who was co-medalist at last year’s Hogan Cup Team Matches, tied for 20th at 6-over par. Kennon, who finished at 11-over par, finished tied for 39th.
The squad representing British Columbia (Callum Davison, Keaton Gudz, Tristan Mandur, Nolan Thoroughgood) won this year’s Junior America’s Cup, shooting 3-under par for the 54-hole event. Thoroughgood earned the individual title after finishing at 8-under par.
