Stember, Moody Qualify for 2018 U.S. Junior Amateur
ALOHA, Ore. - Nate Stember (Portland, Ore.) and Graham Moody (Vancouver, Wash.) both qualifed Monday for the 2018 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship after the 18-hole qualifer was held at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club - South Course in Aloha, Ore.
Monday's qualifier had two spots qualifying spots available for this year's championship.
Stember, a rising senior at Lincoln High School in Portland, got off to a hot start at The Reserve on Monday. He tallied four birdies on his front nine, leading to a 4-under par start through nine holes. He bogeyed the par-3 11th, but finished strong with birdies on two of his final three holes. His 4-under par 68 earned himself medalist honors by four shots.
Moody recently finished his freshman year at Mountain View High School in Vancouver, WA. The rising sophomore stayed consistent throughout his round, finishing with 14 pars. However, his birdie on the long par-4 17th hole led him to an even-par round of 72, good for the second and final qualifying spot by a stroke.
Both Stember and Moody are coming off winning individual state titles. Stember won the OSAA 6A State Title, while Moody won the Class 3A State Championship in Washington.
The 2018 U.S. Junior Amateur will take place July 15-21 at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, N.J.
