CANBY, ORE. – Scotty Kennon (Bandon, Ore.) and Carter Lee (Tillamook, Ore.) qualified Monday for the 2017 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship after qualifying was held on June 19th, 2017 at Willamette Valley Country Club in Canby, Ore.
Two qualifying spots were up for grabs in Monday’s qualifier. The 2017 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship will be held July 17-22 at Flint Hills National Golf Club in Andover, Kansas.
Kennon, 14, fired a 1-under par 71 to earn medalist honors on Monday. Two-over par through 10 holes, Kennon fired three consecutive birdies on holes 13-15 to catapult himself to the top of the leaderboard.
In the first Oregon Junior Golf Major of 2017 earlier this month at Centennial Golf Club, Kennon won the Boys Open Division title.
Lee, 17, was 1-over par after his first nine holes in Monday’s qualifier. His steady play on his second nine included eight pars and one birdie, and his even-par total of 72 was just enough to earn himself a trip to Kansas next month.
Last year, Lee represented Team Oregon #2 at the prestigious and historic Eddie Hogan Cup Team Matches, held annually at Riverside Golf & Country Club.
Spencer Tibbits (Vancouver, Wash.) earned the first alternate spot after a three-person playoff at 1-over par (73). Krando Nishiba (San Diego, Calif.) is the second alternate.
