Salem's Ellie Slama to Begin Journey at 2018 U.S. Women's Amateur
KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. - Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) will be the lone Oregonian and OGA member competing at this year's U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, held August 6-12, 2018 at The Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs, Tenn.
Slama is the 2018 Oregon Women's Amateur champion, capping off an impressive week back in June by winning her first OGA adult Championship. Slama is also a two-time Oregon Junior Amateur winner and won the Oregon Junior Stroke Play twice.
After her memorable junior golf career, Slama went on to Oregon State, where she will be a sophomore beginning this fall. As a freshman, Slama posted the lowest scoring average in OSU history (72.79), highlighted by a win in her second-ever collegiate event, the Ron Moore Invitational.
Recently, Slama finished 43rd at the 2018 Canadian Women's Amateur Championship. She'll play in this month's Oregon Women's Stroke Play Championship at Broken Top Club in Bend, Ore., and is currently ranked 156 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
Slama will begin the U.S. Women's Amateur at 11:36 PST on Monday, August 6. This will be Slama's first appearance at the U.S. Women's Amateur and fifth USGA Championship appearance overall -- she played in three U.S. Girls' Junior events and also the 2017 U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball.
