Quarterfinals Set for 34th Oregon Senior Men's Amateur Championship
WOODBURN, ORE. – After 36 holes of competition for the Championship bracket on Wednesday, the quarterfinals are set in each flight at the 34th Oregon Senior Men’s Amateur Championship, held this week at the OGA Golf Course.
All three flights (Championship, Flight I, Flight II) will play quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Thursday, with the final matches in each flight taking place on Friday, Sept. 8th.
Top-seeded Bob Harrington (Portland, Ore.) held his own on Wednesday, winning both his matches 5&4 to advance to a quarterfinal match against Brad Karns (Vancouver, Wash.). Karns played in last month’s U.S. Senior Amateur Championship in Minnesota, and is the No. 8 seed this week.
Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.), winner of the event the past three years, cruised in his two matches Wednesday. He’ll play Steven Robinson (Tigard, Ore.) in Thursday’s quarterfinals. Robinson, the No. 23 seed, is the highest seed remaining in the Championship bracket.
Last year’s Oregon Senior Men’s Amateur runner-up, Tom Zupan (Portland, Ore.), will play No. 4 seed Denny Taylor (Gladstone, Ore.) tomorrow. In the final quarterfinal, Tim O’Neal (Vancouver, Wash.) will face off against No. 14 seed Michael Senatra (Happy Valley, Ore.). Senatra upset the No. 3 seed, two-time Oregon Senior Men’s Stroke Play champion Randy Mahar (Portland, Ore.), 1-up in the round of 16.
