OJG Junior America's Cup Teams Finish Strong at Respective Events

ANACONDA, Mont. & EVERGREEN, Colo. -- The Girls and Boys Junior America's Cup teams representing the OGA and Oregon Junior Golf finished sixth and seventh, respectively, at last week's 2018 Girls' Junior America's Cup and Junior America's Cup competitions.

The Girls' Junior Americas Cup was held July 25-27 at Hiwan Golf Club in Evergreen, Colo. The Junior America's Cup was held July 24-26 at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort Golf Course in Anaconda, Mont.

The Girls team representing Oregon and OJG finished in sixth place, totaling 681 (+51) over the three days. Leading the way was Victoria Gailey (Tigard, Ore.), who earned a T12 finish at 225 (+15). Mary Scott Wolfe (Beaverton, Ore.) finished T14 at 226 (+16), while Olivia Venderby (West Linn, Ore.) earned a T34 finish at 235 (+25) and Olivia Loberg (Bend, Ore.) finished T37 at 236 (+26).

Team OJG also received the Joan Teats Award, given to the team that best exhibits the qualities of leadership, honesty, friendship and respect.

The team from Mexico won this year's Girls' Junior Americas Cup, winning by 11 shots and finishing at 212 (+12).

The Boys team representing Oregon and OJG earned seventh place at this year's competition, finishing at 633 (-15). Nate Stember (Portland, Ore.) earned fourth place indivdually, finishing at 206 (-10) at the completion of the three days. Austin Carnese (Portland, Ore.) finished T17 at 213 (-3), while Mateo Fuenmayor (Beaverton, Ore.) finished T29 at 217 (+1) and Johnny Ward (Lake Oswego, Ore.) earned a T46 finish at 223 (+7).

Colorado won the Junior America's Cup, finishing at 622 (-26) for the 2018 event -- one shot better than Team Mexico #1.
