OGA Tournament Season Kicks Off with Tournament of Champions This Weekend

MOLALLA, ORE. – The 2017 OGA Championship season begins this weekend with the 73rd OGA Tournament of Champions, held Saturday and Sunday, April 1-2 at Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla, Ore.

The season kick-off event features club champions of OGA Member Clubs from the past two years, as well as select eligible OGA champions from 2015 and 2016. There are three divisions in this weekend’s event – Men’s, Women’s, and Senior Men’s.

In the Men’s Division, defending champion Jack Dukeminier (Beaverton, Ore.) is in the field, attempting to become the first repeat men’s champion since Pat O’Donnell in 1983-84. Last year’s runner-up, Tanner Huddleston (Woodland, Wash.) will be looking to win his first OGA event after falling to Dukeminier in a playoff in 2016.

Also in the field is 2016 Oregon Junior Amateur and Oregon Junior Stroke Play champion Spencer Tibbits (Vancouver, Wash.); last year’s Oregon Mid-Amateur winner Philip Bagdade (Portland, Ore.); Inaugural Oregon Amateur Four-Ball winner Brent McKee (Portland, Ore.) and two-time Tournament of Champions winner (2005, 2009) Jim Dunlap (Tigard, Ore.).

The Women’s field features a number of strong players, including last year’s runner-up Brie Stone (Veneta, Ore.). Stone won the 2016 Oregon Women’s Mid-Am title, her sixth win in the event.

Amanda Jacobs (Portland, Ore.) will be looking to continue her stellar play after a strong 2016, where she won the Inaugural Oregon Amateur Women’s Four-Ball Championship with teammate Gretchen Johnson (Portland, Ore.), who is also playing this weekend. Jacobs also won the 2016 Pacific Northwest Women’s Amateur, as well as advanced to last year’s U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.

Also in the field is two-time Oregon Senior Women’s Amateur champion Leilani Norman (Eugene, Ore.), who won last year’s Oregon Senior Women’s Stroke Play Championship. Two outstanding Oregon Junior Golfers are also representing at this year’s Tournament of Champions – 2016 Oregon Junior Amateur winner Haley Greb (Pendleton, Ore.) and 2016 Oregon Junior Stroke Play champion Victoria Gailey (Tigard, Ore.).

In the Senior Men’s field, 2016 OGA Golfer of the Year Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.) will be one of the favorites. Denny Taylor (Gladstone, Ore.), who finished second in last year’s Oregon Senior Men’s Stroke Play and qualified for the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship, and Tom Zupan (Portland, Ore.), runner-up in last year’s Oregon Senior Amateur Championship, are both contenders.
