MOLALLA, Ore. - Brody Marconi (Portland, Ore.) and Tabetha Kang (Tigard, Ore.) won their respective Open Divisions at the 2018 Central Willamette Junior, held Monday, July 9 at Willamette Valley Country Club in Canby, Ore. and Tuesday, July 10 at Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla, Ore.
Marconi won the Boys Open division (ages 14-18) by shooting scores of 72-70 - 142 (-1). He was the only player to finish under par in the division, and won by six shots over three players -- Isaac Buerger (Redmond, Ore.), Owen Huntington (Camas, Wash.) and Sam Renner (Bend, Ore.).
Kang led by two shots in the Girls Open division (ages 12-18) heading into Tuesday's final round and hung on to win by one shot after firing a two-day total of 77-77 - 154 (+11). Alexandra Tomita (Happy Valley, Ore.) and Olivia Venderby (West Linn, Ore.) tied for second, one shot behind Kang at 12-over par.
In the Junior Boys division (ages 16-18), Peter Grossenbacher (Eaton, Colo.) earned the win after firing scores of 75-73 - 148 (+5). The Girls division (ages 15-18) was won by Hannah Lim (Happy Valley, Ore.), who shots 82-76 - 158 (+15) to win by nine shots. Jonathan Scott (Salem, Ore.) won the Boys division (ages 14-15) by two shots, shooting 81-74 - 155 (+12). Connor Henderson (Portland, Ore.) finished in second place at 14-over par.
The Intermediate Girls division (ages 12-14) won tightly contested throughout the two days, with Kyra Ly (Portland, Ore.) winning by one shot after scores of 81-74 - 155 (+12). Emily Song (Beaverton, Ore.) earned second place at 13-over par. The Intermediate Boys division (ages 12-13) was won by Tye Dechativong (Beaverton, Ore.), who led by two shots after Monday's first round and won by an impressive five shots over two players. Dechativong shot 76-79 - 155 (+12).
The 9-hole divisions included impressive play across the board. Natalie Yen (West Linn, Ore.) won the Pee Wee Girls division (ages 10-11), improving her second-round score by 10 shots after finishing with rounds of 46-36 - 82 (+11). Lucas Vanderlip (Gold Beach, Ore.) completed a wire-to-wire win in the Pee Wee Boys (ages 10-11) division, shooting 38-35 - 73 (+2). Sevren Quinn (Bandon, Ore.) won the Pee Wee Boys (ages 8-9) division, shooting 44-42 - 86 (+15).
