Ken Forster and Randy Mahar to Play in 2018 Oregon Senior Amateur Final
SALEM, Ore. – Ken Forster (Salem, Ore.) and Randy Mahar (Portland, Ore.) will play each other on Friday in the championship match at the 35th Oregon Senior Amateur Championship, held this week at Illahe Hills Country Club in Salem, Ore.
Friday’s 18-hole championship match will commence at 8:45 AM.
Forster, the No. 1 seed in match play after earning medalist honors during stroke play qualifying, is playing this week at his home course. He has yet to play the 18th hole in match play thus far; in his quarterfinals match on Thursday, he defeated 2018 Oregon Amateur quarterfinalist Michael Senatra (Happy Valley, Ore.), and in the semifinals, he beat last year’s Senior Amateur runner-up Tim O’Neal (Vancouver, Wash.).
Mahar is the No. 10 seed and played with Forster during stroke play qualifying on Tuesday. The 2014 Oregon Senior Men’s Stroke Play champion has had an impressive run to this year’s final match. In Wednesday’s round of 16, Mahar eliminated five-time champion Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.). After defeating Michael Jackson (Redmond, Ore.) in this morning’s quarterfinals, Mahar advanced to the championship match by beating Byron Patton (Tigard, Ore.) in 19 holes.
Drop-flight championship matches will also take place on Friday, beginning with the Flight III finals at 8:00 AM. The Flight II final match will tee off at 8:15 AM, while the Flight I finals will begin at 8:30 AM.
