Junior Golfers Battle at 2017 Central Oregon Junior

REDMOND, ORE. - Victoria Gailey (Tigard, Ore.) and Keith Lobis (Camas, Wash.) earned Open Division titles this week at the 2017 Central Oregon Junior, held Monday at Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Prineville, Ore. and Tuesday at Juniper Golf Course in Redmond, Ore.

For Gailey, this week’s win marks her second Oregon Junior Golf major victory of 2017 – following her victory in last week’s Southern Oregon Junior at Rogue Valley Country Club in Medford. Gailey also has four runner-up finishes so far this summer (Centennial Junior, Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge, Oregon Junior Stroke Play, Oregon Junior Amateur), as she continues her strong year of junior golf.

Gailey shot scores of 75-72 – 147 (+3) to win by three shots over first-round leader Elise Filuk (Camas, Wash.), who finished at 6-over par for the event. Tannica Porter (Eugene, Ore.) earned third place after shooting 79-76 – 155 (+11).

Lobis was in a tight battle with Johnny Ward (Lake Oswego, Ore.) throughout the event. Both players fired impressive rounds of 69 (-3) on Monday, but it was Lobis who went lower on Tuesday. His 5-under par 67 sealed a two-shot win over Ward, as both players played great golf over the two days.

Mayson Tibbs (Prineville, Ore.) also finished under par this week, finishing at 4-under par after a 68 on Tuesday. He earned third place, while Brody Marconi (Portland, Ore.) finished at even-par and in fourth place.

The Girls Division (ages 15-18) was won by Aerin Song (Beaverton, Ore.), while the Junior Boys Division (ages 16-18) had a two-hole playoff to determine the winner. Ethan Akers (Happy Valley, Ore.) earned the victory over Jake Bourquein (Milwaukie, Ore.) as both finished at 18-over par for the two days.

Sofia Fuenmayor (Beaverton, Ore.) earned a three-shot win in the Intermediate Girls Division (ages 12-14). In the Intermediate Boys Division (ages 12-13), Collin Hodkinson (Beaverton, Ore.) won by an impressive 10 shots, finishing at 4-over par for the 36 holes.

In the Pee Wee Divisions, Grady Millar (Vancouver, Wash.) won the Pee Wee Boys 10-11 Division, while Jacinda Lee (Camas, Wash.) won the Pee Wee Girls 10-11 Division. Owen Greenough (Bend, Ore.) earned the victory in the Pee Wee Boys 8-9 Division.
