Hudson Cup, Senior Hudson Cup Matches Begin Thursday at Overlake G&CC

MEDINA, Wash. – The 70th Hudson Cup and the 27th Senior Hudson Cup matches are set to take place this Thursday and Friday, Oct. 18-19, 2018 at Overlake Golf and Country Club in Medina, Wash.

Both competitions include amateurs and professionals from Oregon and Washington playing each other in the Ryder Cup-style matches. In cooperation with the Washington State Golf Association (WSGA), the OGA and WSGA selected a total of 10 amateurs and 10 senior amateurs to compete against the professionals in both competitions. Of the 10 players in each category, five represent the OGA and five represent the WSGA. Amateur team members are selected based on performance points earned through each respective amateur golf association. The Pacific Northwest Section PGA also selects their professional team members based on performance points earned throughout the season.

Each player will play three matches: A Foursome Match, a Four-Ball Match and a Singles Match. At the completion of the events, awards are presented to the outstanding player on each team as decided by votes of the team members. The awards honor Chuck Congdon, Larry Lamberger, Bob McKendrick, and Bill Eggers, four great players with outstanding Hudson Cup records.

In 2017, the Senior Amateur team defeated the Senior PGA Professionals for just the eighth time in history, 11 to 9. The PGA Professionals defeated the Amateurs 12.5 to 7.5 in last year’s Hudson Cup.
