Heron Lakes GC Wins 2015 OGA Women's Interclub Play Championship

ALOHA, ORE. - The 2015 OGA Women’s Interclub Play (WIP) season came to a close on Saturday, October 10th, with the team from Heron Lakes Golf Club winning the championship, held at The Reserve Golf and Vineyards in Aloha, Ore.

The 2015 WIP season consisted of 22 OGA Member Clubs competing in two regions from Vancouver, Wash. to Salem, Ore: The North Region and the South Region. Within these regions, there were two different divisions. The season consisted of five matches where teams played Four-Ball Match Play with Gross, Net and overall points against the other teams in their division. At the end of the five matches, four Division Champions were crowned. In the North Region, Heron Lakes Golf Club and RedTail Golf Club. In the South Region, Creekside Golf Club and Forest Hills Golf Club.

The four Division champions competed for the 2015 WIP Championship in the Season Finale on Saturday at The Reserve. The Regional Championship was held in the morning on the South Course, as Heron Lakes and RedTail competed for the North Region title. Heron Lakes prevailed 13 – 5 to advance to the Championship Match in the afternoon. Creekside and Forest Hills competed for the South Region championship, as Creekside won 15 –3 to face Heron Lakes in the finals.

The Championship match was held in the afternoon. Heron Lakes and Creekside battled through tough conditions, with heavy rain and wind during the first few holes of the match. The skies cleared and both teams were resilient in the tough conditions. Heron Lakes defeated Creekside 13.5 – 4.5 to become 2015 OGA Women’s Interclub Play Champions.

The afternoon also consisted of a Season Finale Consolation Match for teams not competing for the Championship. Teams played in a 2-Person Shamble, using a Stableford point system to earn points for their team. Points earned during the Consolation Match were added to the point totals from the season. After the points were tallied the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) earned the 2015 Women’s Interclub Play Consolation Match title.

Thank you to all the teams that participated in 2015 OGA Women’s Interclub Play, as well as in this past weekend’s season finale! This was the second year of the Women’s Interclub Play program. In the coming years, it will be expanded to Eugene and Bend in hopes of becoming statewide. Registration for the 2016 season will start in February.
