Columbia Edgewater No. 1 Wins 90th OGA Men's Team Championship
REDMOND, ORE. – The team representing Columbia Edgewater Country Club won the 90th OGA Men’s Team Championship on Sunday, as the 2017 OGA Championship schedule wrapped up at Juniper Golf Course in Redmond, Ore.
The 36-hole OGA Men’s Team Championship contained four players representing 25 different OGA Member Clubs; each team took the best three scores Saturday and Sunday.
Columbia Edgewater, which fielded two teams this year, saw the No. 1 team hold a big lead after Saturday’s first round. The squad entered Sunday’s final round with an eight-shot lead after the team shot an even-par 216 on Saturday.
The squad held steady on Sunday, beating its Saturday score by three shots and finishing the two-day event at 3-under par (429) to win by nine shots total. The team was led by Jack Dukeminier (Beaverton, Ore.), who earned individual medalist honors by shooting 71-70 – 141 (-3). The win marked his second by Dukeminier in 2017; he also won the Oregon Mid-Amateur back in July.
Mike Kloenne, Jay Poletiek, and Sean Collopy completed Columbia Edgewater No. 1’s team.
Columbia Edgewater has won the Men’s Team Championship an improbable 31 times, including this year. This year’s victory marked the club’s first win in the event since 2011.
Bend Golf & Country Club earned a second place victory, finishing at 438 (+6). Charlie Rice (Bend, Ore.) earned a third place finish individually, firing scores of 71-72 – 143 (-1).
Arrowhead Golf Club and defending champions Royal Oaks Country Club both tied for third place at 16-over par (448). Arrowhead’s Pat O’Donnell (Happy Valley, Ore.) earned second place individually, his second-straight runner-up finish in this event; he shot scores of 71-71 – 142 (-2).
Heron Lakes Golf Club and Rose City Golf Club tied for fourth place at 455 (+23), sharing low-public club honors.
