Bryce Wortman and Ellen Secor Win Titles at 2018 Oregon Public Links
WOODBURN, Ore. – Bryce Wortman (Creswell, Ore.) and Ellen Secor (Portland, Ore.) each won a playoff to earn titles at the 21st Oregon Public Links Championship, held August 11-12, 2018 at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore.
Wortman and Secor both led their respective divisions after the first day of play, only to withstand an impressive field to win their first OGA Championship titles.
Wortman, a redshirt sophomore at San Jose State University, led by a shot after Saturday’s first round where he fired a 2-under par 70. The 2015 Oregon Junior Amateur winner rebounded from a double-bogey on the par-5 4th hole on Sunday to post another 70, finishing at 140 (-4) for the tournament.
Battling throughout the weekend with Wortman was Chris Polski (Eugene, Ore.), Associate Head Golf Coach at Northwest Christian University. Polski briefly took the lead on the back nine, before a bogey on the par-4 15th hole placed him in a tie with Wortman. The two would both finish at -4 before going to a playoff, which Wortman won on the first extra hole.
Wortman shot scores of 70-70 – 140 (-4), while Polski finished with 71-69 – 140. Finishing in a tie for third place was Kyle Luttrell (Lebanon, Ore.) and Ryan Fery (Beaverton, Ore.), both ending up at 142 (-2) for the championship.
The Women’s Championship came down to Secor, the first-round leader, and Victoria Gailey (Tigard, Ore.), who sat three shots back after Saturday. Secor made the turn on Sunday at 3-under par total, only to bogey three holes on the back nine and finish at even-par. Meanwhile, Gailey finished with a 1-under par round of 71 on Sunday to force a playoff between the two former Oregon Junior Golf stars. Secor eventually won her first OGA Championship, on the second playoff hole.
The Colorado State standout golfer finished with scores of 70-74 – 144 (E). Gailey shot 73-71 – 144 to earn second place. Last year’s champion, Jenny Krause (Eugene, Ore.), finished in third place, shooting 72-73 – 145 (+1).
Nathan Pawlak (Bend, Ore.) won the Men’s Open flight, shooting scores of 77-77 – 154. Todd Innes (Wilsonville, Ore.) earned the net title, finishing at 16-under par net.
