Baines Duo Win Gross Title, Two Sides Tie for Net at 68th OGA Parent-Child Champman
SALEM, Ore. – The father/son team of Scott & Nicklaus Baines (Portland, Ore.) won the Gross title, while two sides tied for the Net title at the 68th OGA Parent-Child Chapman, held this weekend, July 14-15, 2018 at Salem Golf Club in Salem, Ore.
The event consisted of two days with each team playing 18-holes either Saturday or Sunday. The tournament champions are the teams with the lowest gross/net scores over the two-day Championship.
The Baines’ squad fired an impressive 7-under par 65 on Sunday, compiling eight birdies and just one bogey throughout their round. The team is a mainstay in OGA competitions, with Nicklaus recently finishing his college career at the University of San Diego, and Scott a member of the OGA Executive Committee.
Brad & Austin Carnese (Portland, Ore.) finished in second place gross, shooting a 6-under par 66. Austin, a current Oregon Junior Golfer, recently earned a place on the Junior Americas Cup team representing Oregon, the OGA and Oregon Junior Golf. Jon & Chris Holzgang (Tigard, Ore.) and James & Cole Chrisman (Bend, Ore.) tied for third place at 5-under par.
The side of Samantha & Terry Miller (Portland, Ore.) shot the lowest gross score on Saturday, finishing at 4-under par.
Both Net champions came from Sunday’s field, as well. The sides of David & Nicholas Trejo (Corvallis/Philomath, Ore.) and Chris & Jackson Bensel (Sherwood, Ore.) both fired impressive net rounds of 59 (-13) to tie for the title. Two teams – David & Katelyn Knox (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Gibb & Cameron Mitchell (Jacksonville/Bend, Ore.) tied for third at 11-under par (61). Those squads tied for low net honors during Saturday’s round.
