2017 OGA Score Posting Season and Unpleasant Course Conditions
Even though we are all wondering if it will ever stop raining, the OGA Handicapping Season is right around the corner and starts Wednesday, March 1st. Scores made on golf courses within the OGA region (Oregon and Southwest Washington) must be posted beginning that day.
If you are donning your raingear and braving the unusually soggy conditions, you will want to check with your club’s Handicap Committee and / or Golf Pro to see if your club has invoked a Local Rule for dealing with the variety of circumstances this rough winter has left us with. Many clubs in the area have adopted the policies described in our position paper in order to clarify options for members. Check out Playing Golf Under the Rules in Unpleasant Conditions.
Unless your Handicap Committee has decided to temporarily suspend posting due to adverse conditions – and they are the only group who has the power to do so – be sure to post your good scores, your bad scores, and the ones in between! Accurate handicapping relies on capturing a lot of data so your Handicap Index will always be the correct reflection of your potential ability. Even in casual play it’s important to have an honest Handicap Index that accompanies a full scoring record.
Remember to post your scores right after you play, so your Handicap Index will always be current. Handicap Indexes are updated on the 1st and 15th of each month.
There are more ways now than ever to post your score – at your club’s posting computer, at away course’s posting computers, online at ghin.com or our website, and through the FREE GHIN Mobile App.
Need an updated handicap card? You can print one at your club, get it through your eRevision update via email, through our website (go to Handicaps/Handicap Lookup), or better yet, through your GHIN Mobile App.
