2016 Oregon Junior Golf Tournament of Major Champions: Recap


WEST LINN, ORE. - It was a beautiful end to the 2016 summer OJG season on Sunday at the 2016 Tournament of Major Champions, held Sept. 25th at The Oregon Golf Club in West Linn, Ore.

A total of nine divisions crowned champions. Participants had won a 2016 Oregon Junior Golf major tournament during the summer season.

The Junior Boys Division came down to a playoff between Craig Ronne (Klamath Falls, Ore.) and Spencer Tibbits (Vancouver, Wash.). After both players shot 71 (-1), Ronne won the title with a par on the first playoff hole.

In the Girls Division, Ellie Slama (Salem, Ore.) also shot a 1-under par round of 71 for a five-shot win in the division. Victoria Gailey (Tigard, Ore.) and Ashley Zhu (Salem, Ore.) tied for second at 4-over par (76).

The Boys Division was won by Jackson Kennon (Bandon, Ore.), who, like the previous two divisions, also fired a solid 1-under par 71 on Sunday. Samuel Pyon (Happy Valley, Ore.) finished in second place, shooting 77 (+5).

Mary Scott Wolfe (Beaverton, Ore.) was victorious in the Intermediate Girls Division, shooting a 76 (+4) to win by three shots over Olivia Venderby (West Linn, Ore.). In the Intermediate Boys Division, Mateo Fuenmayor (Beaverton, Ore.) fired the low score of the tournament, a 3-under par 69 to win the division by four shots over Scotty Kennon (Bandon, Ore.).

The Pee Wee Boys 10-11 Division was won by Simon Grey (Lake Oswego, Ore.), who shot a 7-over par 79. Messiah Gilbert (Williams, Ore.) earned second place, shooting 82 (+10). In the Pee Wee Boys 8-9 Division, Alex Tseng (Portland, Ore.) fired a 42 (+6) for 9-holes, winning by four shots over Drew Woolworth (Lake Oswego, Ore.).

In the Pee Wee Girls 10-11 Division, Emily Song (Beaverton, Ore.) won after shooting an impressive 9-hole round of 39 (+3). Jacinda Lee (Camas, Wash.) earned second place, firing 47 (+11). The Pee Wee Girls 8-9 Division was won by Natalie Yen (West Linn, Ore.), who finished at +13 (49) for the event.
